Details

This is a highly collectible antique rug, hand knotted in Villages in the Southern Caucus region. Rugs from this region are highly prized for their durability and beautiful geometric designs and time softened colors.
Rugs from nearby villages are Bakshaish, Serapi, Karadja, and this very fine example of a Heriz. It is 100 years old and will continue to become more beautiful and valuable over the next 100 years.

These carpets are in high demand, and pretty ones sell fast, and upwards to $100,000.00

The colors take on amazing hues due to a high copper content in the local water. The wool is dyed in batches and it is common to see variations of color across the rug. This is referred to as “Abrash”.
